A Five-Week Monologue & Scene Workshop

“Brush Up Your Shakespeare!”

with Joanne Zipay,
Founder and Artistic Director, JSC

An ideal opportunity to prepare
new audition material,
strengthen your existing audition pieces,
or prepare for grad school
and Shakespeare Festival auditions!

Ms. Zipay returns to teach her valuable and richly informative class. Actors should be prepared on the first day of the workshop to work on at least one Shakespeare monologue – audition pieces or pieces you’re just beginning to develop are perfect material for this class.
Ms. Zipay may also recommend further monologue and scenework for each student at the first session of the workshop. Coaching of scenes and monologues will be supplemented with warm-ups and exercises for the entire class.

Testimonials

"I walked into Joanne Zipay’s Brush Up Your Shakespeare! class a little scared and a lot intimidated.  I was even hoping the class textbook would be 'Shakespeare for Dummies' and then five weeks later, I had three Shakespearean monologues 'trippingly off the tongue' -- and walked out of the class with no fear of Shakespeare!"

- Roetta Collins, actor

"Joanne is adept at guiding an actor through the technical challenges of speaking Shakespeare's verse for the purpose of deepening the actor's understanding of character and ability to create that character in performance.  She was my first teacher in acting Shakespeare and I'm thankful to her for providing me a solid technical base that has served me well in my further training and performing.

- Collin Ware, actor

“Ms. Zipay has a passion and mastery of the text which is awe-inspiring.”
- British Theatre Guide, 2002
